During late august of 2011, Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on our town, resulting in about 6 days of absolute blackout. Besides the rotting meat and the cold showers, it was actually a fairly fun time, mostly because I had lots of spare time and the temptation of technology had been eliminated, allowing me to arrange jazz standards for the ukulele. All of the tunes on this EP were arranged during that week, and all but one were recorded during the blackout on a small digital recorder. I included the MIDI parts later. Although they are not all Duke Ellington songs (one of them isn’t even jazz), I still decided to take on the moniker. One of my good friends once snidely remarked that “the ukulelle is an instrument that is made for people without talent”.
This record is an attempt to prove him incorrect.
